In Reading, we use our Journeys text book to read short stories, excerpts of chapter books, readers' theater, nonfiction, and poetry. In these selections, we'll learn vocabulary and comprehension skills. We'll continue to use the vocabulary and skills in our guided reading groups. Guided reading groups are used to enhance our reading by allowing for a chance to work on silent and oral fluency in reading, one on one instruction, and small group discussions about the story. Many of our guided reading books are a variety of genre of literature, so it also allows us the chance to talk about what characteristics make realistic fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, nonfiction, etc. ![]() Seymour Simon Guided Reading Spiders http://www.explorit.org/science/spider.html http://www.termite.com/spider-identification.html http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/31/us/31spider.html?_r=1&ref=spiders http://www.onemotion.com/flash/spider/ Sharks http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/sharks/ http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids/games/puzzlesquizzes/quizyournoodle-sharks/ Wolves http://www.wolfsongalaska.org/wolf_why_howl.html http://teacher.scholastic.com/wolves/index.htm http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/wolf.html |
